If you want to be with the young and the rich, move to Washington, D.C. Fully 16 counties in Virginia and Maryland that are close-in to Washington, D.C. are in the top 50 counties nationwide with the highest concentration of young and wealthy people, according to a survey by The Nielsen Company. How young? They're 25 to 35 years old. How rich? They have annual incomes over $100,000. Nielsen says the study reflects the subtle but significant shift of the demographic to the larger metropolitan areas, as well as a slight shift to the East. In 1990, a similar study showed the young and the rich congregated in the heartland and Texas, which was driven primarily by oil and secondarily by agribusiness. While young and wealthy households make up only 2.15 percent of the total U.S. population, they account for 10 percent of the population in No. 1 Loudoun County, Virginia. Top 10 counties nationwide of households ages 25 to 34 with $100,000+ income: 1. Loudoun County, Virginia (D.C. metro area) 2. Arlington County, Virginia (D.C. metro area) 3. San Francisco County, California 4. New York County, New York 5. Douglas County, Colorado 6. Forsyth County, Georgia 7. Alexandria City, Virginia (D.C. metro area) 8. Delaware County, Ohio 9. Scott County, Minnesota 10. Broomfield County, Colorado --From the Editors at Netscape
